High Point Gutter replaced 200 feet of gutter on a two-story Kent home in September 2026 and added the drip edge metal the roof never had. At the assessment, lifting the shingle edge showed no starter metal between the roof and the gutter. The new system is 6-inch K-style seamless aluminum in Harvest brown, with 191 feet of new downspout, five hand-mitered corners, 200 feet of 1×3-inch drip edge, and 40 feet of counter flashing. The crew assessed the house on August 12 and installed everything on September 1 and 2, 2026.

The homeowner’s request
The homeowner booked a service assessment for August 12. The estimator walked the house, sketched every gutter run and downspout, and photographed the roof edge. The homeowner approved the quote by phone.
The estimator also flagged an access problem for the crew: the side yard to the left of the garage is narrow, so the quote notes asked the homeowner to check with the neighbors in case ladders had to be set on their side.
What High Point found at the roof edge
The key photo from the assessment is a close-up with the bottom shingle lifted. There is no metal under it. The quote spells it out: the home did not have the proper starter metal under the roof. Without a drip edge, water running off the shingles can wick back along the underside of the roof edge and run down behind the gutter instead of into it.

Why the quote went beyond the gutters
New gutters alone would have left the same gap at the roof edge. So the quote added 200 feet of 1×3-inch drip edge, one foot of drip edge for every foot of new gutter. Drip edge slides under the shingles and laps over the back of the gutter, giving runoff a metal path into the trough. Where a gap would still show between the roofline and the top of the gutter, the quote added 40 feet of counter flashing tucked behind the drip edge.
At 200 feet, the drip edge cost nearly as much as the 191 feet of downspout. On this house it replaced a part that was missing, not an upgrade.
The rest of the quote dealt with drainage at ground level. Six downspouts tie into underground drain lines. The quote had those pipes cut down to about 5 inches above grade and fitted with 2×3-to-4-inch PVC adapters, plus one flex pipe transition, so each downspout drops cleanly into its drain.
How the installation was completed
The crew removed and recycled the old gutters and downspouts, installed the drip edge, and then hung 200 feet of new 6-inch K-style gutter. Per the quote, the system is .032-gauge aluminum on Raytec hidden hangers with preformed outlets. The five corners were hand-mitered on site and sealed with silicone, and four gutter ends that run into the roof got closed cutbacks.

The roof also carries a solar array. The quote included two permanent stainless steel roof anchors, which give the crew a tie-off point for this job and for any later work on the roof. All 191 feet of new downspout went up in matching Harvest, with one custom offset to keep a run tight to the wall.

Gutter replacement cost in Kent, WA
This project fell in the $6,500 to $10,800 range. That covered removal of the old system, 200 feet of 6-inch gutter, 191 feet of downspout, 200 feet of drip edge, 40 feet of counter flashing, five hand-mitered corners, four closed cutbacks, the drain line work, and two roof anchors.
Two things pushed this job up compared with a gutter-only swap. The drip edge was priced by the foot along the whole roofline, and the 191 feet of downspout came close to the 200 feet of gutter. A house that already has drip edge, or has shorter downspout drops, would come in lower for the same gutter length. This range reflects the scope of this completed project and is not a current quote.
What homeowners replacing gutters should know
Ask what is under the shingle edge before you sign. A gutter quote that doesn’t check for drip edge can leave the original problem in place behind brand-new gutters.
Downspout footage matters on two-story homes. On this house it nearly matched the gutter footage, and it was the second-largest line item.
If your downspouts run into underground drains, check how they connect. Here the drain pipes were cut down and fitted with adapters so the downspouts seat into them properly.
Related questions
How much does gutter replacement cost in Kent, WA?
This Kent replacement fell in the $6,500 to $10,800 range for 200 feet of 6-inch gutter, 191 feet of downspout, 200 feet of new drip edge, counter flashing, and drain work. A gutter-only job of the same length would cost less; houses that also need drip edge or long downspout drops cost more.
What is drip edge, and why was it added here?
Drip edge is an L-shaped metal strip that sits under the bottom row of shingles and laps over the gutter. This house had none, so the quote added 200 feet of 1×3-inch drip edge to keep roof water from wicking behind the new gutters.
What is the difference between drip edge and counter flashing?
Drip edge goes under the shingles along the roof edge. Counter flashing tucks behind the drip edge to close any remaining gap between the roofline and the top of the gutter. This job used both: 200 feet of drip edge and 40 feet of counter flashing where a gap remained.
Why were roof anchors part of a gutter job?
The quote included two permanent stainless steel roof anchors so the crew had a safe tie-off point while working on the roof. They stay on the roof for any later gutter or roof work.
How long did this replacement take?
Two days on site, September 1 and 2, 2026. The assessment was August 12.
