High Point Gutter replaced the gutters on a two-story Federal Way home with a large upper deck in July 2026. The crew removed 128 feet of old gutter and installed 128 feet of 6-inch K-style seamless aluminum gutter with 90 feet of new black downspout. The deck was the unusual part of this job: the crew cut three holes through it so new downspouts could pass through.

What the homeowner asked for
The homeowner asked for a full gutter replacement, and High Point assessed the house on July 10. The back of the home has a large upper deck with a glass railing, and a covered patio underneath it. Downspouts on that side have to get past the deck to reach the ground.

The assessment photos also mark an old steel 2-inch round downspout for replacement.
The solution: route downspouts through the deck
High Point quoted a full gutter replacement with 6-inch K-style gutter. For the deck, the quote included cutting three holes through the deck boards so downspouts could pass straight through.
The quote also included two reducers that step a standard 2×3-inch downspout down to a 2-inch round outlet, plus 15 feet of 2-inch round downspout in Low Gloss White to route the water away from the home.

Materials and other details
- Gutter: 128 feet of 6-inch K-style, formed on site from .032-gauge aluminum.
- Downspouts: 90 feet of 2×3-inch aluminum in Black, with fasteners hidden in the back.
- Corners: two, hand-mitered on site and sealed with flexible silicone.
- Valley diverters: two, set on the gutter where roof valleys empty so fast-moving water drops in instead of shooting over.
- Counter flashing: 25 feet, tucked behind the drip edge to close the gap between the roof edge and the top of the gutter.

How the project went
The homeowner signed the quote on July 15 and the install was done in one day on July 23. The crew removed the old system, hung the new 6-inch gutter, cut the three deck holes, and ran the new downspouts through them.
Gutter replacement cost in Federal Way, WA
This project fell in the $3,400 to $5,600 range. That covered removing 128 feet of old gutter, 128 feet of new 6-inch gutter, 90 feet of 2×3-inch downspout, 15 feet of 2-inch round downspout with two reducers, three deck holes, two valley diverters, two hand-mitered corners and 25 feet of counter flashing.
Gutter and downspout length drove most of the cost. The deck holes, reducers and round downspout were a small share of the total. Adding gutter covers or replacing rotted fascia would raise a job like this. This range reflects the scope of this completed project and is not a current quote.
What homeowners with decks should know
Ask where each downspout will go before the install. On this home, the plan to run downspouts through the deck was part of the quote.
Smaller pipe is an option. Here, two downspouts were reduced to a 2-inch round outlet.
Downspout color is a choice. This home got black 2×3-inch downspouts, with white round pipe used for routing water away from the home.
