Gutter Repair in Renton, WA: 326 Feet of Drip Edge, a 69-Foot Re-Slope, and an Upper Downspout Rerouted

September 29, 2026

Estimator markup on the back of a Renton, WA home noting a gutter re-slope and corner reseal

Home › Projects › Gutter Repair in Renton

High Point Gutter repaired the existing gutters on a two-story Renton home instead of replacing them. The crew installed 326 feet of drip edge metal the roof did not have, re-sloped 69 feet of gutter so it drains to the outlets, resealed three corners, and rerouted an upper downspout so it empties straight into the lower gutter. The homeowner asked for a repair assessment on June 19, 2026, and the work was completed on July 14.

What the estimator marked up

The request came in as “assess for repair.” At the June 20 visit, the estimator photographed the house and drew the repairs right onto the photos. The back of the house is marked for a re-slope along the upper gutter and a corner reseal. A second photo shows an upper downspout ending above the lower roof. It’s marked for an offset and an elbow that drops straight into the lower gutter.

The problems High Point found

No starter metal at the roof edge. The quote records that the home did not have proper starter metal under the roofing. Drip edge is a strip of metal that sits under the bottom row of shingles and extends over the gutter. Without it, water coming off the roof can wick back under the roof edge and run behind the gutter instead of into it. This house needed 326 feet of it.

Gutters out of slope. Sixty-nine feet of gutter needed re-alignment so water would flow to the outlets. Re-sloping means releasing the fasteners, resetting the gutter at the right pitch, and securing it again.

Three corners to reseal, and an upper downspout that emptied onto the lower roof instead of into a gutter.

Why High Point recommended repair

Every item on this list could be fixed with the existing gutters left in place. Drip edge goes under the roofing, not into the gutter. Re-sloping resets the gutter’s pitch. Resealing fixes a corner. Rerouting a downspout is an offset and an elbow. None of these needed new gutter, so High Point quoted the job as gutter repair and kept the existing system.

The downspout change is worth a closer look. An upper downspout that ends on a lower roof puts concentrated water on one patch of shingles. The fix here was a custom 3-inch offset, fabricated in colonial gray, on the bottom of the upper downspout, with the elbow moved so the water drops directly into the lower gutter. Two other existing downspouts were reconnected as part of the repair.

How the repair was completed

The crew slid 1×3-inch drip edge under the bottom course of roofing along 326 feet of roof edge. On the 69 feet being re-sloped, they released the gutter, reset the pitch toward the outlets, and fastened it again. At the three corners, they removed the old sealant, wire-brushed the metal, and applied new silicone. They cleaned only the re-sloped runs, which is how the quote scoped the cleaning. The job was completed on July 14, 2026.

Gutter repair cost in Renton, WA

This project fell in the $3,200 to $5,300 range. That covered 326 feet of drip edge, re-sloping 69 feet of gutter, three corner reseals, reconnecting two downspouts, the custom offset and downspout reroute, and cleaning the re-sloped runs.

Almost three quarters of the cost was the drip edge. It is priced by the foot, and this house needed 326 feet of it. The re-slope, reseals, and downspout work together were a much smaller share. If a roof already has drip edge, a repair visit like this one costs much less. This range reflects the scope of this completed project and is not a current quote.

What homeowners with similar problems should know

Water behind the gutter and water that won’t reach the downspout are two different problems with two different fixes. On this home, the drip edge addressed the first and the re-slope addressed the second. A good assessment separates them.

Check where your upper downspouts end. If one empties onto a lower roof, ask whether it can be routed into the gutter below.

You can fix a gutter system without replacing it. When the gutter metal itself is sound, repairs can target just the parts that failed.

Related questions

How much does gutter repair cost in Renton, WA?

This Renton repair fell in the $3,200 to $5,300 range. Most of that was 326 feet of drip edge added under the roof edge. The re-slope, three corner reseals, and downspout reroute were a smaller part of the total, so a repair without drip edge would cost much less.

What does it mean to re-slope a gutter?

Re-sloping resets the pitch of a gutter so water runs toward the downspout outlet instead of sitting in the trough. On this job the crew released the fasteners on 69 feet of gutter, reset it, and secured it again.

Can drip edge be added without replacing the roof or gutters?

On this project, yes. The crew slid 1×3-inch drip edge under the bottom course of the existing roofing along 326 feet of roof edge and left both the roof and the existing gutters in place.

What should happen to a downspout that drains onto a lower roof?

On this home, High Point added a custom offset to the bottom of the upper downspout and moved the elbow so the water drops directly into the lower gutter, instead of landing on the shingles.

How long did this repair take?

The homeowner requested an assessment on June 19, 2026, the estimator visited on June 20, and the quote was signed June 29. The repair was completed on July 14.
