High Point Gutter repaired the gutter system on a two-story Everett home and added 53 feet of new 6-inch gutter to a newly built covered patio at the back. On the house, the crew replaced every gutter hanger screw, installed 130 feet of drip edge metal the roof did not have, reattached a loose downspout, took apart and cleared a clogged two-story downspout, and cleaned the gutters. All of it was done in one day on June 25, 2026, after waiting for the homeowner’s new concrete patio to cure.

The situation
The request came in as a partial gutter install. The homeowners were finishing a covered patio off the back of the house, framed with an open beam and a plywood roof deck, and it had no gutter. The estimator’s note to the crew summed up the job: partial gutter install on the deck out back, plus some repairs to the house gutters.
Scheduling had to work around the patio itself. The quote notes record that the homeowner was waiting on underground drains and a concrete pour, and that High Point should come in after. By install day the slab was poured and had cured for a few weeks. The homeowner asked the crew to lay plywood on the new concrete so ladders and materials would not scuff it, and that went into the job notes.
What High Point found on the house
The existing gutters on the main house were staying. The repairs quoted against them came from what the estimator saw at the assessment and what the crew documented on install day.
No starter metal. The quote states that the home did not have proper starter metal under the roof edge. Without a drip edge, water leaving the shingles can wick back along the underside of the roof edge instead of dropping into the gutter. High Point quoted 130 feet of 1×3-inch drip edge metal to go in under the roofing.
Aged hanger screws. The install-day photos show the original hanger screws inside the trough, and the quote called for replacing all of them across the main house with hex-head screws and neoprene washers. The hangers themselves stayed; the fasteners holding them to the house were the item.
Blocked and damaged downspouts. A section of downspout to the right of the garage had come off the wall and needed to be reattached. The two-story downspout on the right front had a clogged crosspiece, and the crew took it apart, cleared it, and put it back together. At grade, one downspout elbow was crushed flat where it met the ground.
Why repair the house gutters instead of replacing them
The scope on the main house was fastening, flashing, and flow. Replacing the screws puts every hanger back on a fresh, gasketed fastener without changing the gutter. Adding drip edge and 30 feet of counter flashing addresses where water goes at the roof edge, which is independent of the trough’s condition. Clearing and reattaching downspouts restores flow. None of those items required new gutter, so High Point quoted them as gutter repair and kept the existing runs. The new gutter went only where there was none: the patio.
Hanging a gutter on a beam with no fascia
The patio structure had no fascia board, so there was nothing for a standard hidden hanger to screw into. The quote called for 22 roof hangers, which fasten to the roof framing and suspend the gutter from above, holding it upright along the beam. The crew’s note the week before install laid out the footage: a 31-foot run on the beam and two 11-foot runs on the sides, 53 feet total.
The homeowners chose 6-inch K-style for the patio. High Point installs 6-inch as an upgrade from the standard 5-inch profile for greater water-handling capacity. Thirty-six feet of 2×3-inch downspouts came off it, with two custom offsets fabricated on site to keep the downspouts flush to the structure. Two downspouts were tied together into a single drop, and two 2×3-to-4-inch PVC caps connected downspouts to the underground drain lines the homeowner had just put in.
Cleaning, covers, and moss treatment in the same visit
With the crew already on the house, the homeowners added a full gutter and downspout cleaning and a moss treatment on the roof. The crew hand-cleared the troughs and downspouts, then applied a white powdered zinc sulfate monohydrate along the roof planes. Per the product description, the white residue is expected and washes down over the following weeks.
One short run got a cover: 11 feet of 5-inch Gutter Clean Pro on the garage gutter beside the front step. Gutter Clean Pro is a retrofit cover that installs on existing gutter, which is why it could go on this run without replacing it.
Project cost range
This project fell in the $3,100 to $5,200 range. That covered 53 feet of new 6-inch gutter on roof hangers, 36 feet of downspouts with two offsets, 130 feet of drip edge, 30 feet of counter flashing, replacement of every hanger screw on the house, one downspout reattached, one two-story downspout cleared, two tie-ins, two drain caps, 11 feet of Gutter Clean Pro, a full gutter cleaning, and a moss treatment.
The drip edge was the largest single item on this job, larger than the new gutter, because it ran 130 feet across the house while the new gutter ran 53 feet on the patio. Repair work prices by the item, so a list this long adds up even when each piece is small. This range reflects the scope of this completed project and is not a current quote.
What homeowners with similar projects should know
If you are building a covered patio or deck roof, plan the gutter with the drainage. On this project the homeowner ran underground drains before the slab went in, and the crew connected the new downspouts straight to them with PVC caps. Doing it in that order avoided cutting into finished concrete later.
Ask whether your roof has drip edge. It is not visible from the ground, and on this home its absence was the single biggest line on the repair quote.
A gutter can be worth keeping even when its fasteners are not. Replacing the screws is a far smaller job than replacing the run, and it was the right call for the main house here.
