High Point Gutter installed two different gutter cover systems on one northeast Seattle home. A new addition on the left side of the house had no gutters at all, so it got 54 feet of new 6-inch K-style gutter with DoublePro covers built in. The original gutters on the rest of the house were sound but collecting debris, so those 119 feet were cleaned and 57 feet of them were retrofitted with Gutter Clean Pro covers. Each product was matched to the gutter it was going on.

The situation
The homeowners requested a new gutter assessment in mid July. The house had recently gained an addition on its left side, and that new roof had no gutters. The original part of the house, a white home with solar panels on the main roof, still had its existing gutters, and conifers around the property were keeping them full.
What High Point found
Our estimator walked the property on July 15 and split it into three zones. The addition needed a complete gutter system from scratch. A short stretch between the original house and the addition had a 6-foot section of old gutter that needed to come out and be replaced so the two rooflines drained cleanly. And the existing gutters on the original house were holding debris along the top edge, including on runs that sat directly below the solar array.
The existing gutters were 5-inch, so any retrofit cover had to be sized to that. The addition was quoted at 6-inch.
Why two different cover systems
High Point recommended DoublePro on the addition and Gutter Clean Pro on the existing gutters, and the reason comes down to how each product attaches.
DoublePro is a continuous hanger with the cover built into it. It is installed as part of hanging a new gutter, so it made sense on the addition, where the crew was installing 54 feet of new 6-inch gutter anyway. The manufacturer backs it with a 45-year clog-free warranty.
Gutter Clean Pro is a retrofit cover. It goes onto gutters that are already hung, without pulling them down and rehanging them. That made it the right fit for the 5-inch gutters already on the original house. Per the manufacturer, its perforated panel is designed to move water into the gutter quickly while shedding leaves and conifer needles, and it also carries a 45-year clog-free warranty.
Putting new-construction covers on the existing gutters would have meant tearing off sound gutters to do it. Putting retrofit covers on the addition would have meant hanging gutters and then adding a second product on top. Matching the product to the gutter avoided both.
What we installed
On the addition: 54 feet of 6-inch K-style gutter with 54 feet of 6-inch DoublePro covers, 39 feet of 2×3-inch downspouts, three adapters connecting the downspouts into 4-inch PVC drain lines, and 7 feet of counter flashing at the roof edge.
Between the house and the addition: 6 feet of old gutter removed, a new 5-foot section of 5-inch K-style gutter, and 18 feet of 3-inch round downspout in low gloss white with a cap fitting into the 4-inch PVC below.
On the existing gutters: a full cleaning of all 119 feet, then 57 feet of 5-inch Gutter Clean Pro gutter covers on the runs the homeowners chose to protect.
How the project was completed
The crew started July 22, one week after the assessment. High Point cleans a gutter before covering it, since a cover over a dirty gutter just seals the debris in, so all 119 feet of existing gutter were cleaned as part of the visit. The new 6-inch gutter and DoublePro went up on the addition, the connector section and round downspout were fitted between the two rooflines, and the Clean Pro covers were seated on the cleaned 5-inch runs. The job was closed out July 24.
Project cost range
This project fell in the $2,500 to $4,100 range. That covered 54 feet of new 6-inch gutter and DoublePro covers on the addition, 57 feet of Gutter Clean Pro on the existing gutters, the connector section and round downspout, the PVC tie-ins, and cleaning all 119 feet of existing gutter.
Cover projects vary with footage, gutter size, whether the covers are retrofit or part of a new gutter install, and how many downspout connections are involved. Here the new gutter on the addition and the two cover products each made up a meaningful share of the total. This range reflects the scope of this completed project and is not a current quote.
What homeowners with similar homes should know
If you have added onto your house, the new roof needs gutters that tie into the same drainage as the rest of the home. On this project that meant running the addition’s downspouts into the 4-inch PVC drain lines already in the ground, and replacing the short section of gutter where the old roofline met the new one.
Gutter covers are also not one product. A cover that installs with the gutter and a cover that retrofits onto an existing gutter are different systems, and a good estimate will tell you which one is going where and why. Ask.
