Gutter Clean Pro gutter guards installed over a gutter in Federal Way, WA

Home › Projects › Gutter Guard Installation in Federal Way

High Point Gutter installed 170 feet of Gutter Clean Pro gutter guards on a two-story Federal Way home in September 2026. The quote notes the gutters were new, so the job kept them and prepared them for covers. The crew pried out improper edge metal that had been used as drip edge, added 90 feet of counter flashing, re-sloped 32 feet of gutter, and replaced one short section. The same visit included a roof moss treatment.

What High Point found

The homeowner booked an assessment for August 31. The quote notes that the gutters were new, so this was a covers job, not a replacement. The photos from that visit show debris sitting in the troughs around the hangers, on a lot with tall trees.

The assessment also flagged the roof edge. Assessment photos mark a gap between the roof and the back of the gutter for counter flashing, and the quote calls the edge metal used as drip edge improper for a covers install.

The prep work in the quote

Gutter covers sit at the roof edge, so the quote dealt with that edge too. It priced three prep items alongside the gutter guards:

  • Remove the improper edge metal. Labor to pry out edge metal that had been used as drip edge, so the covers could be installed.
  • 90 feet of counter flashing. Tucked behind the drip edge to close the gap between the roof edge and the top of the gutter.
  • Re-slope 32 feet of gutter. Release the fasteners and re-secure them so water runs to the downspouts. High Point checks slope with torpedo levels.

The quote also replaced one short section: 10 feet of gutter removed and 14 feet of new 5-inch K-style installed with two hand-mitered corners.

The guards: Gutter Clean Pro

The homeowner chose 5-inch Gutter Clean Pro for all 170 feet. It is a perforated cover that sits over the top of the gutter. Per the quote, the covers price included a light cleaning of the gutters.

Downspout details

  • One black hardpipe. It extends an upper downspout along the lower roof and drops the water into the lower gutter, so the water does not land on the shingles.
  • One downspout noise reducer. A rope run down the inside of the downspout to slow the water and cut the splashing noise.
  • One custom offset and 8 feet of new downspout, in Low Gloss White.

Moss treatment on the same visit

While the crew was on the roof, they applied a moss treatment: a white powdered zinc sulfate monohydrate. It is a treatment, not a removal. Per the product description on the quote, visible results typically show over four to six weeks as the moss dies and rain washes it off, and the white residue is expected during that time.

Gutter guard cost in Federal Way, WA

This project fell in the $4,200 to $7,000 range. That covered 170 feet of Gutter Clean Pro, removing the improper edge metal, 90 feet of counter flashing, 32 feet of re-slope, the short gutter section with two corners, the downspout work, and the moss treatment.

The covers were a little under half of the total. The counter flashing was the next largest item, because there was a lot of it. A home whose roof edge is already ready for covers would land lower. This range reflects the scope of this completed project and is not a current quote.

What homeowners adding gutter guards should know

New gutters can take covers without being replaced. On this home the gutters stayed, and the work went into the roof edge and slope.

Ask what prep the roof edge needs. Here, the quote included removing edge metal, adding counter flashing and re-sloping part of the gutter before the covers went on.

Look at your upper downspouts while you are at it. This job added a hardpipe so one upper downspout no longer drains onto the lower roof.
