High Point Gutter cleaned the gutters and downspouts on a brick home in north Seattle, where the runs along the roof edge were packed solid with needles and small cones from the surrounding trees. The assessment also scoped one 19-foot section of gutter for replacement, so the job grew to include that new run, 76 feet of gutter covers, a downspout that needed refastening, and a diverter so the homeowners could send roof water to a rain barrel.

The situation
The homeowners booked a gutter and roof cleaning assessment for August 6. The house is brick, with a tall chimney and solar panels on the main roof, and trees stand close enough to the house that the gutters had filled to the brim.
What High Point found
The debris was the obvious problem, and the crew’s photos from the job show it: runs filled level with the gutter lip, with needles and cones layered over older compacted material. But the assessment added two more items. One 19-foot section of gutter was scoped for replacement rather than cleaning, and one downspout had come loose from the wall.
The homeowners also wanted to capture roof water for a rain barrel, which gave the crew one more item to fit into the downspout run.
What we recommended and why
The core of the job was a full gutter and downspout cleaning, hand-clearing every run and clearing the downspouts. Around that, High Point recommended three additions.
Replace one section. A 19-foot run of 5-inch K-style seamless aluminum went in on that section, with the old material removed and disposed of.
Cover the gutters. With trees this close and gutters this full, the homeowners chose to add 76 feet of covers. The crew used two products: DoublePro, a hanger-and-cover system that goes on as part of hanging a new gutter, for the replaced 19-foot run, and Gutter Clean Pro, a perforated retrofit cover, for the existing runs that were being cleaned. The manufacturers back both with a 45-year clog-free warranty.
Add the rain barrel diverter. A brown Y-shaped diverter went into the downspout so the homeowners can switch between sending water to the rain barrel and sending it on down the drain.
How the project was completed
The crew was on site August 19, about two weeks after the assessment. They cleared the gutters by hand, run by run, cleared the downspouts, and refastened the loose downspout to the wall. The old 19-foot section came off and the new run went up with DoublePro built in. Clean Pro covers were then seated on the cleaned existing runs, including the stretch that wraps past the brick chimney, and the diverter was cut into the downspout. The job was closed out the next day.
Project cost range
This project fell in the $1,400 to $2,400 range. That covered the full gutter and downspout cleaning, 19 feet of replacement gutter, 76 feet of covers across two products, the downspout reattachment, and the rain barrel diverter.
The cleaning itself was a small share of the total. Most of the cost was the covers, with the cleaning and the replacement run each a smaller piece. A cleaning-only visit on a home this size would sit well below this range. This range reflects the scope of this completed project and is not a current quote.
What homeowners with similar homes should know
A gutter that is full to the lip is not draining. Water that cannot reach the downspout goes over the front edge, or over the back edge onto the fascia, and needles that sit in the trough hold moisture against the metal between rains. If your gutters look like the before photo above, the cleaning is overdue, and it is worth having the estimator look at the whole system while they are up there.
A cleaning visit is also the natural time to decide on covers. The gutters are already clean, the crew is already on the ladder, and retrofit covers like the ones used here go onto the existing gutters without replacing them.
